'Cheerful Flutterings' now available for download

From advance beginner to intermediate embroiderer, create ‘Cheerful Fluttering’s’ a Floral and Insect Stumpwork scene ready for framing.

Using two very different techniques, one three dimensional and the second stitched onto the background fabric using a lesser-known honeycomb style stitch creates two playful Dragonflies. Each Dragonfly also having different body types. The inquisitive needle lace butterfly flutters happily about with oversized Daisies standing boldly tempting him to land. While the Hydrangeas stand defiantly in an elegant vase of smoked glass with an intricate design stitch to it’s outside.

All elements are then placed on a background of linen and framed to allow us to stand back and watch our cheerful insects fluttering about enjoying the fragrance and spender of two beautiful flowers.

General information about Stumpwork and stitches will be included in lesson material

And of course my signature beetle.

StitchMAP Hexagon Challenge.

In February this year StitchMAP started a year long challenge of Hexagons.  Here are my designs and some of the other designs which I've completed as part of the challenge. Along with these designs there would be two other designs to choose from most months.

February, March and April's Hexagons.

'A' with Woven Silk ribbon Roses - February challenge. (not my design), others that were offered was a Celtic knot garden (loads of French knots) and another embroidery flower motif.
March's Hexagons was Flowers - The Australian Wattle and Gum nuts were my design for the Challenge and a Cross stitch rose was also offered.

April's challenge was an Umbrella, Topiary Trees and a beaded Strawberry motif, (not my designs)

This Queen bee, was for May's challenge (Not my design), also offered was a Redwork Girl and a Shady Lady fabric applique.

June's challenge was this wonderful Canadian Oak Leaf, (not my design).  Stitched in Felt applique and also in blackwork.  The third offering was Crayon Coloured embroidered wild roses.

July's challenge was my Dragonfly. Which is an element from one of my larger embroidery pieces - Cheerful Flutterings.
Also offered for July was a raised embroidery Butterfly and a spider and his web (often used in Crazy Patchwork).

August was my Aboriginal inspired Kangaroo and Gecko.

The Gecko is also from a larger embroidery piece, Twines in Nature.

There are still a couple of my designs to be released, but since their still to come we want to be a surprise, so I can't show them here.

If you would like to join StitchMAP and learn a wonderful skill jump on over to the Yahoo site HERE and enjoy this wonderful craft. They regularly run classes to learn about colour, red work, crazy quilting and others.

You can also download my FREE iPhone embroidery app HERE or click on the link above left. (remember Android version is in production and will be released soon)

Stumpwork DYOB (Do Your own block) - Beth's block

For some reason it seemed to take forever to finish this block, I guess it's because I have had so much on lately.  Hopefully it will slow down after the next four weeks.

Here is my work on Beth's block.

Now back to work on catching up on my CQJP blocks... no 3...   Arlene

Round Robin Progress

I have finally finished my work on two blocks for Kathy Shaw. Kathy was so
kind to allow me to hold them longer so that I could get others work out of the
way before I completed hers. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of room on either
block for me to work with, so I did two motifs for her.

For the Butterflies and Dragonflies, I created a silver and goldwork butterfly
based on her own design.

I added several buttonhole butterflies in some of the
spaces and butterfly buttons beneath my motif. There was no more room really to
do any seams.

For the Lace and pearls one, again there were only smallish seams left and only
one place for a motif. So I added lace butterflies here and there and added
twilled ribbon and pearls onto of a lace motif in the corner. Two seams near the
basket of flowers.

I've also been working on some blocks for Southern Cross Crazies, my Xmas cracker swap block and our current round robin.
This is the Christmas cracker block, still to embellish, with silver, blue and white, and a silver beetle.

And this is my block for the RR, we get to choose our own theme, so I chose Christmas. in the silvers, white and blues.

And lastly the first part of my stocking for Lyn's Stocking swap.

All about sewing RR - Lorries block and butterfly

Ok, now a weekend of stitching was certainly on the cards, and I've enjoyed it immensely.  I've finished my work on Lorries 'All about sewing' block, which I'm the angel for.

Here is the block after my work, the wonderful black singer sewing machine was already on the block to begin with.
My additions are of course the 3D butterfly, then working anti-clockwise, the green chevron seam, the green/blue fan with flower beads. The pink buttonhole and white herringbone seam, with a woven silk ribbon rose cluster. Buttonhole stitch butterfly's, butterfly charms and a flower beaded seam.

Here are closeups for you.
