Hello All,

Been a little quiet, yes I know, but I have been busy, will show results in the next few days.  In the meantime my next class with Joggles is closing soon.  Cheerful Flutterings, scheduled for April 8th the class will run for 4 weeks.  You will be introduced to needle lace, wire wrapping, some advance stitch techniques and a couple of little known stitches.  Click the link or go to the Classes tab for more details.

Grow your Blog 2014

Welcome to all the newcomers to my blog.  I have been blogging since 2009, mainly about my embroidery but also occasionally about whatever is happening of some importance in my life.

I love surface embroidery, Goldwork and Stumpwork, all of which I try to incorporate into my Crazy Quilting which is also what I love.

I didn't start doing embroidery until a few years ago, but now this is all I do.  My son and I recently created a FREE Embroidery App for iPhone-iPad-iPod, the link is on the left side bar as well as here. It's gonna be a while now unfortunately before I get an Android version up an running, son now has a full time job, and so our time is very limited what time we can spend together on it.

I teach several classes a year with Joggles.com, in the top page tabs you can navigate to the page where more info about what classes I do or up coming are listed.  My next two classes are: The needlelace Dolphin on the 20th Feb 

and Cheerful Flutterings on the 8th April.

Also on these tabs are the FREE Tutorials and template downloads for the projects in our Embroidery App. You can also download my new FREE 2014 Printable Calendar.  I posted a few posts ago on how to put it together.

 

I am a member of several Yahoo online forum groups, but mainly I am involved with Crazy Quilting International and their swaps, Southern Cross Crazies and their swaps, CQJP and their Annual challenge, but I would be far more involved with StitchMap, where you can learn many different forms of embroidery for Free.  To get more info on these groups their 'buttons' are on the left or right side of the blog.

My ongoing major project this year is the CQJP project, which is the 12 Days of Christmas Wall hanging.  Worked with goldwork and stump-work elements as well as incorporating crazy quilting. I am currently up to number 6.

I am locally involved in two craft groups and Scouts Australia.  Fibres and Fabrics are a local fibre arts group which I am involved with.  Here is the link to their blog.  I am also Chief Steward of the Arts and Crafts division of our local show, here is the link to the Show Schedule if you are local and wish to enter.

I live in the wonderful north Queensland city of Townsville on the East Coast of Australia, a place of great inspiration for my embroideries.

2014 Joggles classes

Spring/Summer offerings of Classes at Joggles

I have 4 classes in the next round of offerings from Joggles.com
2 New classes and 2 that are being re-offered.
New classes are:
'Hopper-Grass'

and 'Mermaid'

The classes being re-offered, are 'Beetles in Stumpwork' and 'Twines in Nature'.

I am still amazed by the interest in my beetles, this class has run each season now for 18 months.

From advance beginner to intermediate embroiderer, create ‘Cheerful Fluttering’s’ a Floral and Insect Stumpwork scene ready for framing.

 

Using two very different techniques, one three dimensional and the second stitched onto the background fabric using a lesser-known honeycomb style stitch creates two playful Dragonflies. 

Each Dragonfly also having different body types.

 

The inquisitive needle lace butterfly flutters happily about with oversized Daisies standing boldly tempting him to land. 

 

While the Hydrangeas stand defiantly in an elegant vase of smoked glass with an intricate design stitch to it’s outside.

 















 




-->All elements are then placed on a background of linen and framed to allow us to stand back and watch our cheerful insects fluttering about enjoying the fragrance and spender of two beautiful flowers.



 This new class is offered on the 22nd March.







Spot's walk is featured, he is offered on the 5th April.

 And again for the 5th time running, my beetles are offered again. March 1st he is offered.

It's wonderful to have the opportunity to share embroidery, I hope you enjoy the projects if you decide to join me.

Latest work

I've been busy working on my examples for an upcoming class on Joggles.  The title of the class is 'Doris' and is scheduled for the 4th December. The class is based on a photograph of my mother.  This first photograph is the original piece that the class is based.

Here is the final piece that will be part of the text. Some references to the original piece will be included in the text. The reason for this is because I forgot to take photographs putting her together originally.

Christmas came early this year

We have had the pleasure of dog sitting a beautiful dog named Leica.  Her owners returned home from 8 months in India. We have had her since April, she is a lovely natured dog.  Anyway her owners brought home some gifts for Michael and I, Michael received an original Swiss army knife, with so many attachments, it's just amazing.  Now our friends know that I love my crafts, and so this is what I got: spoilt to say the least.
The first is a basket full of trims, sequins, and other lovelies.

Then she unrolled this stunning Door hanging, it is made from recycled clothing, a wedding dress and other cloths.

Then the postie came and I got more goodies ..... I recently entered a competition promoting the Olympics and 'Gold' was the theme, i entered my beetle and he won. I received this in the mail, but, since I already own a copy I'm donating this one to my craft group "Fibers and Fabrics".

And also in the mail, was an order I placed a few weeks ago for some new stump work tools, they are made of Bubinga wood.
I haven't taken them out of the box yet, will do so over the weekend.

I purchased them from a small company in the UK, they are called Needlepaws and they make other types of tools too.

So wow, what a happy girl I am.... now what to do with it all, I have to try and convince Michael to add another couple of hooks in the walls so I can display my door hanging.

Stumpwork Beetle Class

Spot's walk - starting shortly

Next Friday the 1st of June, this class starts.  There is still time for you to sign up. all you need to do is go to Barbara Joggles site - here is the link for you directly to this class.

This piece of work was inspiration from another one of my pieces ‘Rosey’s Walk’. Instructions show you how to embroider your pet on their walk through parks, and woodlands.

From beginner to intermediate embroiderer, using only a few basic stitches you will create a Stumpwork scene ready for framing.

General information about Stumpwork and stitches will be included in lesson material.

Week 1: Brief history of Stumpwork, common tools of the technique, designing your picture, preparation of your background, stitching and painting background, and introduction to stitches.

Week 2: Making the Tree.

Week 3: Stitching Spot, and finishing off. Design techniques and ideas on designing to stitch your own pet

The supply list will be sent to all students one week before the class starts. Once you buy this class you will receive an email order confirmation, but you will not hear from us again until the supply list is sent.

A high speed connection to the internet is recommended for all students.

In order to participate in online classes at joggles you are expected to have basic computer and internet skills. You need to be able to browse the internet, know how to download and save a document to your computer's hard drive, and understand how to open and save email attachments. It is your responsibility to learn these skills before the class begins.

Please be certain you are comfortable with all of these skills. Class fees will not be refunded once the class has begun.

My Joggle Classes Revealed

G'day All,

Well yes they have finally been revealed.  I have 5, yes 5, classes this next quarter, and if you think I'm excited you are right.

The classes are (if you click on the title it will take you to the link of the class)

First up on 1st June is Spot's Walk.
This is a piece that was adapted from 'Rosey's Walk' which was an assessment piece that I made last year.

Next up on the 22nd June is the return of my Beetles class.
I know a lot of you have requested to do this class, Barbara heard your requests and has happily offered it again to you all.

Following up on the 24th July is a wonderful stumpwork piece, 'Twines of Nature'

This piece I blogged about a little while ago. It's adapted from the Tax Book. Of course your class will the embroidery part.

On the 1st of August, you can create a great addition to your accessories, a unique cover for that Kindle (of whatever else needs a cover) in Crazy patch. I will not be teaching the Crazy patchwork, only a few basics. I will be teaching the construction of the case.

And of course that long awaited Gold Beetle class. You will be using beautiful rich gold work products. Be introduced to some basic stitches used in this very decorative technique.

I'm in a dilemma, and was hoping you all could give me assistance. The Title header photo of this blog, The embroidery of the Tree, Gecko and beetle, are going to be an up coming class on Joggles.com soon and I need to name the class, I need your help for suggestions.

The winning name (not a random draw thingy) as I want the winning prize to go to the winning name, will received a very special gift from me. An embroidered Beetle pin cushion. (similar to this one), a different beetle, and you can choose the colour combination to suit your decor'. I will pay the postage anywhere in the world......

StitchMap - another finish

Over the last couple of months I have been mentoring two lovely ladies Leanne (an fellow Aussie) and Iris (a remarkable English women), complete their BCQC2 class. BCQC meaning Basic Crazy Quilting Class (no2), and as I had not done the course before I had to do it along side them.  StitchMap is wonderful group offering these FREE classes through their Yahoo Forum site. Here are my completed items, due to copyright, I can't show you anymore except close ups, so if you want to know more about doing this class yourself, click on the link and go to their forum page, and join.

Here is another view of the pin cushion.  If you like my beetle you can go to Joggles.com and sign on to do a course with me to make these wonderful little works of Art.  I'm extremely happy with how he turned out, the pincushion is my favorite piece.
