Roses 2 RR - Paula's Block

G'day all,  A busy weekend stitching and catching up on other sewing jobs.  First of all I completed my stitching on Paula's stunning Roses 2 block.  I couldn't bring myself to stitch over the beautiful rose lace, so have left that for someone else to do. 

I added a hand painted basket motif and covered it with Kathy Shaw's stunning rose beads and some green still ribbon for foliage. The basket was just screaming for flowers to be added. I added a pink ribbon and a butterfly charm. I also added some buttonhole butterfly's. Here is a close up of the Rose Basket.

Here is a close up of some of the flowers and the ribbon bow.

Next was the seam treatment of Fargo ribbon roses on top of a 2mm white ribbon chevron seam.

You can just see the white ribbon, but it is there.  Next was the seam below this, double herringbone with red sequin flower cup with beads.

I had this braiding thread that was just perfect for this block, and so I added that at the base of the basket running to the edge of the block.

And so that's the work on this stunning block.

Just a last point, Kathy's shop has now been closed to where I got my beads from, but she is selling stunning buttons and her wonderful book over on her 'Etsy' site.

StitchMap - another finish

Over the last couple of months I have been mentoring two lovely ladies Leanne (an fellow Aussie) and Iris (a remarkable English women), complete their BCQC2 class. BCQC meaning Basic Crazy Quilting Class (no2), and as I had not done the course before I had to do it along side them.  StitchMap is wonderful group offering these FREE classes through their Yahoo Forum site. Basically Beaded DYOB - my work on Susan's blocks

G'day,

Well I have been busy stitching, and so I have finished another Basically Beaded block.  Susan's blocks were an array of stunning colours like Carol's, so choosing again was hard, but I finally decided on the blues.

Here are all her naked blocks, the green one had already been stitched, so that left the two purples, a red, yellow and the blue one.

Here is my work on her blue block.

Followed by close ups of the main elements, first the button trail.

 

Next was a requested beetle, he turned out wonderfully, very happy with him.

 He has a variegated body, with detached buttonhole stitched wings, with added beads and sequins.

I hope Susan likes my block, I won't be sending it on until after the weekend as I want to show it off to a class I have on the weekend in Airlie Beach.

Embroiderers Guild UK Baggie swap update

Hi All,

Again I participated in this activity this year, but as yet I haven't gotten around to making my project.  Above is what goodies I sent to Jane back in May, and today in the mail came the most wonderful postcard that Jane has made from some of those goodies. As you can see she is a very talented lady and her work is exquisite, so can't wait to see what else she has made, will post as soon as I know.

I am so proud that this lovely postcard is mine to keep...... Arlene

New Zealand

Michael and I recently went to New Zealand to watch the Wallabies play against Italy and Ireland.  We won against Italy but lost against Ireland. 
















Even the skiing was not the best for Michael, you can only just make Michael out in this photo.

We had a good break anyway.

Traditional Floral Round Robin

While we were in New Zealand recently I took some of my crazy patchwork round robin stitching with me.  Here is my work on Paula's block, which will be winging it's way home in the next day or so.
This first photo is of the block before my work.

 As you can see there was not a lot of space left for me to work on....
Now the next photo is the block after my work...... I added the fan in the top right and the floral lace and floral seam bottom right.

 Close up of the fan; I hand dyed it and added the sequins, beads and ribbon Fargo roses.

 This next photo is close up of the lace motif, with Cretan seam with small straight stitch flowers and ribbon roses.  The lace motif i also hand dyed and added pearl coloured beads.

My Stumpwork Beetle Class is scheduled

Basically Beaded DYOB - Carols blocks

I couldn't help myself for another round robin, this one is Basically Beaded DYOB, I did the Basically Beaded RR earlier this year, but this time is having to do a whole 6 inch block.  I had a hard time choosing which colour I wanted to work on, so I choose my favourite colour and went with that.  So I choose Yellow.



 Here are the 6 blocks, as you can see the colours are wonderful and rich, so hard to choose.  In this photo my work is finished.

Button trail, love doing these, and Kathy Shaw sent me some beaded roses that I just had to share and add.

next are the laces, both enhanced by adding seed beads.

And lastly the beaded seams.

These are now winging their way onto Merle to continue working.

Crazy Quilting Round Robin update

I've been busy trying to get these finished so I can get onto other projects, so here are three that I have finished and will post off tomorrow.
First up is Cathy's Luscious lace, I've added the four motifs at each of the corners, and the tatted butterfly. Herringbone stitch along the two bottom seams and highlighted the flower in the center.

 The next one is Gayle's Luscious lace, the lace band was already there, it's now enhanced with fargo ribbon roses, and a beaded seam across the top of it. Bullion flower and a seam of creten and bullions above. The base has a cluster of woven ribbon and more fargo ribbon roses. The last element is a hand painted fan (by me) at the top left corner.

 This last block is actually about 14 inches square, so the photo doesn't project it's size very well. I have given Candji a beetle as I had promised her, and added a meandering ribbon trail with beaded flowers along it. Last was the large lace motif at the top right corner, with a small enhancement of beads.

Basically Beaded DYOB - my naked blocks (almost).

Life is so busy at the moment, I haven't had time to make new blocks for this RR, so I begged if I could use blocks from previous RR's and was granted permission. So with two fairy's, one fan, and three english garden ones, I have made up 6 blocks for it. Yes I had started one with a beetle, so those in the RR will get to see one up close. Also some lovely work that Ann Flowers did for me on the Fan, had every intention of finishing that one.

Luscious Lace DYOB - Lisa's Blocks

I love working with very girl colours, especially pinks and purples.  Lisa's blocks were pink, and so I really enjoyed working on this set of blocks.  I chose block 3, which had pink and white strips in the centre.  I had picked up somewhere these little butterfly beads and thought they would work extremely well, and they did.  I also had some white lace that I dyed along with the fan.

Close up of the gather silk ribbon flowers with beaded centers, and a double Cretan seam below.

This photo shows the heart bead seam on the left, continuing around clockwise is a half buttonhole wheel, and the lace I dyed.  The centre seam of chevron and detached chain flowers with beads and one of the beaded butterfly.  I'm sorry it they look orange, but they really are baby pink colours.

G'day All,

Well I did quiet well at the show.
