Something Old, Something New – My Embroidery Tutorials Are Back!

Hello everyone! 🌸

It's been a busy and exciting few weeks here at Arlene's Crafts, and today I have something special to share with you.

My printed embroidery tutorials are back!

Over the years, I've designed and created many embroidery projects, exploring everything from traditional Goldwork and Stumpwork to Silk Ribbon Embroidery, Surface Embroidery and Christmas decorations.

Recently, I've been spending time revisiting some of those original designs, preparing them as printed tutorials so that others can enjoy making them too.

There's something rather lovely about bringing an older design back to life, especially when it reminds you of the enjoyment you had creating it in the first place.

A Little Bit of Everything!

My growing collection of printed tutorials includes:

  • Goldwork Beetle – a beautiful project exploring traditional goldwork techniques.

  • Vintage Stumpwork Beetles – dimensional embroidery with lots of character.

  • Golden Wattle – inspired by one of Australia's beautiful native flowers.

  • Surface Embroidery Gecko – a colourful embroidery project.

  • Silk Ribbon Embroidered Bookmark – a lovely introduction to working with silk ribbons.

  • The Amazing Needle Case – something both beautiful and practical.

  • Victorian Christmas Boot – a delightful festive embroidery project.

  • Chevron Folded Christmas Ornament – a decorative Christmas project.

  • Folded Ribbon Christmas Bauble – another lovely addition to your handmade Christmas decorations.

  • Crazy Quilted Christmas Tree Skirt – a festive project combining beautiful fabrics and decorative stitching.

Whether you enjoy traditional embroidery techniques, love creating Christmas decorations or simply want to try something different, I hope you'll find a project that inspires you.

More Than Just Embroidery!

Of course, embroidery tutorials aren't the only things keeping me busy!

I've also been working on my colourful 3D printed Stitched Shapes, Christmas stitching kits, embroidery accessories and hand-painted wooden heads for MMMCrafts projects.

It's wonderful being able to combine my love of traditional needlework with some of the newer creative possibilities available today.

Come and See Me at Oakey Markets!

I'll be bringing my new printed tutorials, along with a selection of my other craft products, to the Oakey Markets.

If you're in the Oakey or Toowoomba area, I'd love you to come along, say hello and have a look at what I've been creating.

There's nothing quite like meeting fellow crafters, sharing ideas and talking about embroidery!

Come and Explore!

You can browse my growing range of craft supplies, kits and creative projects at:

Until next time, happy stitching! 🧵💕

Version 2 - Silk Ribbon Embroidery App - now available.

Hi everyone. Version 2 of the Silk Ribbon Embroidery app is available for download in the Apple App Store.  I'm sorry I can't give you an Android version, I did price it once for someone else to create one, and they quoted me $30,000, ridiculous. So whilst I can do it for FREE by myself and with a little help from my son, you get just Apple.

What's new: There are now video links within the many stitches and useful tips. I've added new Embroidery Stitches and some new useful tips. I will update the downloadable ones here on this website soon.

Here is the link to watch how to navigate the new version: https://youtu.be/pAwf5ZRu4Mc

New Videos - YouTube Channel

Hi, have you visited our YouTube channel lately?

No! you say, we've added many new videos recently.

I will soon be adding more videos related to other techniques other than Embroidery and Silk Ribbon Embroidery like Goldwork, Stumpwork and eventually Crewel work.

I am currently working on new updates for both the Embroidery App and the Silk Ribbon Embroidery App, with new stitches added, new useful tips added and links to the videos on YouTube will be added as well. The Silk Ribbon Embroidery App update is due at the end of September, and the Embroidery App not long afterwards. Hopefully, I can get them out sooner, I will certainly try.

Do you own an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook Air, the apps work wonderfully on them. I have created videos on how to navigate the apps, click the links below.

I'm sorry I can't provide them in an Android version, but the cost is prohibitive. Using Apple I am able to do it all on my own. (with a little of Son's help, of course - he was the original coder after all)

Updated QR codes

QR codes are a quick way to link to either an APP, a website or even a document.

I have discovered a great free site that allows unlimited scans of the QR code, so they never expire.

This company: https://qrcodegeneratorhub.com/qr/my/campaigns does just that, thank you.

Just love how you can have so many designs for free.

More will be added as needed.

A new App and an update

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while, but have been busy trekking the Victorian country side, and working on the new Silk Ribbon Embroidery App.  They are currently being tested and hopefully will be released in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space, or on the Facebook page and we are now on instragram.

The Update to the embroidery App - Version 3 will have 2 new projects, 9 new stitches and new useful Tips. We will also be introducing you to a new technique, Blackwork, this is a wonderful little project to create a unique needle case.

The new Silk Ribbon Embroidery App will introduce you to the wonderful craft that will help you create some wonderful projects. The projects are also available in the Etsy Shop.  The new app will have a small cost, but everything within the App is FREE. 8 projects - 6 mini projects and 2 more complex like this stunning embroidered bookmark. The App will also show you how to dye your own ribbon, threads and fabric to create the same delicate colours.

Within the App is a project to make one of these hearts, the rest are available in the Etsy store.
Here are two of the mini projects, these delicate and stunning Fuchsia's and
A basket full of rambling roses.
There are many stitches, and useful tips for you to explore and some embroidery stitches to help you complete the projects.  Watch this space for the release date.

Catching up and the new App

We are still house sitting at Burrum Heads, we will be here until mid October. Enjoying a lovely winter, although I have had to make a rush trip back to Warwick and it was very cold and wet there.
I'm currently doing a class with the Monday craft - Spring Blooms. We will also do a trip to Fraser Island before heading south. One place I've always wanted to see.

I am also working on the next app, Silk Ribbon Embroidery. Here's the new logo for the App. This app will be a purchase one, but it will not be expensive, I just need to recoup some of the money that Apple demands for creating them, it might be Free for you, but not for me. By the time I've finished I would have worked over 1000 hours into this app.

Also a sneak peak at one of the Free projects that will be in the app - a Bookmark.
I've finished creating all the new 'tips' for this app, there are many, including dyeing, storing, creating backgrounds etc, as well I have finished the stitching for all the stitches. I still need to create the 'flower' stitches and finish off the second free project and create a couple of paid projects. I hope to release in October, which could be a push, but I'm gonna try.

As for the Android version, well we are still working on it. Not sure how long, as it is now left in Chris's hands to finish off, as I have done all I can.
